Well, just thought I'd update.  Too much has gone on to go into it all. The divorce is long final.  Made it to the eye of the hurricane and back through the other side emotionally. My job gets better every day.  Most importantly, I met someone who (pardon the sappy phrasing, but it's the only way to describe it) makes my heart sing with recognition of it's counterpoint.  I've lost some friends, and become closer with others.  I'm almost out of divorce debt after 4 months!  That's it in a nutshell.  Hmm...that's a hell of a big nutshell!

You are The Hierophant

Divine Wisdom. Manifestation. Explanation. Teaching.

All things relating to education, patience, help from superiors. The Hierophant is often considered to be a Guardian Angel.

The Hierophant's purpose is to bring the spiritual down to Earth. Where the High Priestess between her two pillars deals with realms beyond this Earth, the Hierophant (or High Priest) deals with worldly problems. He is well suited to do this because he strives to create harmony and peace in the midst of a crisis. The Hierophant's only problem is that he can be stubborn and hidebound. At his best, he is wise and soothing, at his worst, he is an unbending traditionalist.

WoW
A few days ago I was buying a "For the Horde" shirt, and the guy ringing me up said, "Another WoW-head." I'm not sure if that was intended as an insult or just a comment.

As I was walking out, a man stopped me and started talking about WoW, recommending the Burning Crusade, etc. Turns out he is the manager.

Just a final thought...WoW is hands up the best, most immersive rpg I've ever played. Plus the guild I'm in is full of good friends from the "real world."

That's all for now.

Our guinea pig Haru (means "born in spring") is sick. He began having seizures last month. They went away quickly and the vet said he was fine. A few days ago he began having cloudiness in his left eye. He had also lost a lot of weight. We took him to the same vet, who just looked at him and said he would probably lose his eye. My wife and I didn't feel comfortable with this diagnosis, so we took him to a more expensive animal clinic. The vet there was immediately concerned, and took x-rays to make sure Haru didn't have a brain tumor or a problem with his teeth. The x-rays showed a severe inner ear infection which also explained the "seizures" he was having. He wasn't actually having seizures, he was jerking and spinning in circles due to loss of balance. He is now being treated with the hope of a full recovery.

People I speak to are often perplexed by how much effort we put into keeping our animal friends happy and healthy. I'm pretty sure our dogs think they are our children, and I built a guinea pig cage that has an upstairs apartment (for when one of the two just wants to get away). I'm just as perplexed by the fact that everyone else doesn't feel the same way about animals. Whether Buddhist or Christian, we are given the responsibility of being the caretakers of the Earth and all the creature who live on it (Genesis 1:28-30).

Many people seem to see animals as no more than objects. If animals live or die, are happy or in misery is incidental to them. I definitely don't understand killing an animal for the sole purpose of having it mounted. One person I work with has two stuffed raccoons in his den. He is very proud of this. What a fight they must have put up! Before anyone thinks I am anti-hunting, I must say that I am not. As a Buddhist, part of my beliefs require that I don't personally cause intentional injury to any living creature through my actions, but I cannot and will not judge what is right or wrong for others. I just don't understand trophy hunting. I don't understand seeing a living creature as no more than an object to be placed on display in someones house. Then again, they would probably say the same thing of me, taking a guinea pig to have x-rays. There's room enough in this world for all of us, and time enough to learn about each other if we just try.

If you have a straight razor and would like it sharpened, let me know, or I can show you how to do it yourself.

I have a new passion. Straight razors! I have started a collection of antique razors (thank you e-bay!), but my favorite is the Dovo I bought new!

The shave is incredible! No more 5 o'clock shadow. They even make straight razors for the girls, if any of you are interested.

That's all I have going on.

I don't know if any of you are interested in the game of chess, but I have been playing since I was in grade school, and it is continually my favorite game (people like me are the reason they release chess video games on the X-Box...yes I own a copy of Chessmaster for my X-Box). I don't normally promote things I'm doing, but I just started a chess group, victoria_chess. If any of you are interested, please join.
